A variation of the Old Fashioned using Holland gin (Genever) was first mentioned in Jerry Thomas' Bartenders Guide: How to Mix Drinks in 1862. It wasn't mentioned with whiskey until 1880. It was apparently first created by a bartender in Louisville, Kentucky at The Pendennis Club.

  1. Place the sugar cube into your mixing glass
  2. Add a dashes of each bitters
  3. Lightly muddle the sugar
  4. Add both rums
  5. Fill your mixing glass with ice
  6. Stir for 20-30 rotations
  7. Strain over fresh ice
  8. Garnish with a twist of orange
