Dan Saltzstein, a writer for Bon Appetite, sought out to create a house cocktail to serve guests at his home. He collaborated with Jim Meehan of PDT, New York, to create an approachable and easily replicated cocktail based around Averna. They refined the recipe by trialing numerous iterations of the drink; served up, over ice, different ratios and with different citrus twists (as you would when creating any cocktail of your own).
- Combine all the ingredients into your cocktail shaker
- Shake with ice for 12-15 seconds
- Strain into a chilled coup glass
- Garnish with a twist of orange
